SPM 2010: 368,559 dapat sijil, 9,239 peroleh gred cemerlang

PUTRAJAYA: Pencapaian keseluruhan keputusan Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2010 adalah yang terbaik dalam tempoh empat tahun dengan 368,559 calon berjaya memperolehi sijil berbanding 364,046 calon pada tahun sebelumnya.

Sarawak:
- 36 students in Sarawak scored straight A+s for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2010.
- Jonathan Jong Jee Heng (17) of SMK Green Road emerged as one of Sarawak’s top student in SPM 2010. His secret to success is simply because he spent more time on his studies and less on social networking site, Facebook. He scored 10A+ in the SPM 2010 examinations. Even the little time he spent on Facebook is utilised on searching out scholarship information. This is what we call, time well spent!
- Karen Toh Hui Qi also of SMK Green Road also scored 10A+ in her SPM 2010 exams. Her secret to success comes partly in the form of her father, Toh Poi Seng (52, lecturer) who motivated her to study hard in order to obtain scholarship to further her studies overseas.
- Tang Kah Hung (Jason), aged 20, did not allow the lack of vision to hinder his quest for learning. He scored very well in his SPM 2010 examinations with 6A+, 3A dan 1A-. He became the first student from Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas (Cacat Penglihatan) Setapak to emerge with straight As in SPM since its establishment in 1974.
- He discovered growth in his brain at age 16. During Form 4, he found that his vision narrowed and could not judge distance well. The growth forced him to choose between his life and vision, for which he sacrificed his vision due to his will to live. Three months after his operation, he made the decision to resume his studies and learnt ‘braille’ in Persatuan Orang Buta Malaysia (MAB) for a year before reentering school.
- As good news to the teaching profession, he aspire to become a teacher as he believe that everything begins from a strong foundation and teacher who touches the root will mould students. That’s a gain to society!
- 4 disabled are among the 792 SPM 2010 candidates (3.92%) of 20,377 students in KL who obtained straight As.
- The state’s average grade (GPN) increased to 4.74 in SPM 2010 from SPM 2009′s 4.92. This is much better than the national average GPN of 5.19.
- Sekolah Menengah Sains Alam Shah, Sekolah Menengah Sains Seri Puteri and Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor emerge as the best schools in KL.
- 17 students in Terengganu scored 10A+ for SPM 2010.
- Wong Yujing (18), of SMK Sultan Sulaiman created history (probably as first chinese) to score an A+ for the subject tasawwur Islam in SPM 2010. He is also one of the 17 straight A+ students with A+ in Malay Language, English Language, Moral Studies, History, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Tasawwur Islam. He hopes to pursue further studies in the US or England in the field of engineering.
- Nur Zulaikha, one of the 4 top students of SMK Agama Tok Jiring obtained 11A+ in the Malay Language, English Language, History, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah Studies, Syariah Islamiah Studies and High Arabic Language.
- Kelantan recorded a state GPN of 5.15 in SPM 2010. This is an improvement over SPM 2009′s 5.26.
- The GPN obtained is the best in 7 years.
- 278 candidates obtained straight As out of 35,594 candidates in Kelantan.
- 6 students scored A+ in all subjects that they took.
- Chan Shu Ren of SMK Chung Ching , Raub was named best student in SPM 2010 for Pahang with 11A+.
- The number of straight As scorers also increased from 321 (2009) to 381 (2010).
- 3 Orang Asli students did well in SPM 2010. They are namely, Nornita a/p Sham Song (6A, 4C) from SM Sains Sultan Ahmad Shah, Noranidun Midun(7A, 1C) from SMK Tengku Abdullah and Hashimah a/p Ishak (6A, 3B), from SMK Tengku Abdullah. All three were schooled in Pekan.
